Caribbean Yachting: A Unique Way To See The Caribbean

Caribbean yachting is much more accessible than most other Caribbean water sports because yachts are far roomier and more luxurious – you could choose to spend your entire vacation on a yacht and call it home, instead of staying in a hotel.  If you have any sailing experience, you can enjoy the freedom of sailing from island to island.  If not, then there is no reason to worry as you can hire a crew to take care of the sailing for you, and relax and enjoy the Caribbean seas.
Probably the biggest advantage of Caribbean yachting is that you get to choose which islands you wish to visit. Though most charter companies will suggest an itinerary, you are not legally bound to follow it and if you feel like going left when the plan says right, there is nothing to stop you from doing so. During your sailing experience you also get to choose what kind of food you are going to eat. Beware that no crew means that you will be doing your own cooking so do not overlook that detail. A crewed Caribbean yachting option means you just sit back and relax.

For the majority of holidaymakers, the best option is to simply charter a yacht and leave the rest of the details to the captain.  With experience, you will eventually be able to plot your own courses and make your own itinerary, but in the short term this is the easiest option.  Make sure that you get involved, however, and find out what you can do along the route, so that you enjoy some time on the islands as well as the time on the boat.  Take some books to read, or other things to keep you occupied while on the boat, too – unless you enjoy just looking out to sea, or sunbathing.

Note that if you wish to charter a yacht without a crew then you must carry documentation proving that you have sailing experience so that the charter companies can safely trust you with their boats. This is especially true if you are carrying passengers because the charter company is responsible for their safety.

Caribbean yachting is a nice way to spend time with friends and family – the boats are peaceful and quiet – away from all other other tourists crowding the hotel and the beaches.  You can choose the length of your cruise, so that you don't feel trapped on a boat for too long, and you can plan the activities around your desires, instead of having to follow the plans of the line like you would on bigger cruise boats.

Caribbean yachting gives you a chance to see the Caribbean in a way most tourists never will.  You can learn about the islands, and see ones that are overlooked by most people.  You will have much more exiting stories to tell than if you never left the resort, and you can truly make the vacation your own.

What a fabulous idea. I really like the idea of cruising round the caribbean isles in a yacht rather than on a great big cruise liner with thousands of others.
I imagine you could get right into all those lovely bays, like the one by Dunns River Falls on the north coast of Jamaica. I know the cruise ships moor just down the road, but you can’t beat getting up close & personal like that.
All I need is a captain & a cook, and an overstocked minibar, and I’ll be all set!
