Try Home Remedies To Cure Motion Sickness

Have you ever suddenly felt sick when you were in a car, on a boat, or perhaps enjoying a ride on a roller coaster at an amusement park?  Motion sickness is very common, and indicates an over-sensitivity of the inner ear, which usually works to keep us balanced.

When the brain is unable to match the messages it receives from the ear and eye, it deducts that the body is endangered by poison since it is hallucinating. Hence, as a self-defense, it orders the stomach to expel its contents.

There are several ways to combat motion sickness – there are over the counter drugs available that work in some people, but can have side effects.  There are also patches and wrist bands available.  Or, you can use home remedies which avoid medicines and try to cure the motion sickness in the most natural way possible.  There are some of the more popular home remedies listed below – you can use them individually, or combine them in a way that works for you to cure your motion sickness.

Simple Home Remedies For Motion Sickness

1. Suck on tiny pieces of ginger continuously throughout the traveling period.

2. You could alternate ginger with lemon, and/or use only lemon – thin slices rolled in powder sugar would make it easy to have it and be tasty too.

3. Sucking olives have shown the same results; you could have a few of them which you can chew slowly to last you throughout the trip.

4. Look at the horizon for as long as you can when you look out of the window, alternatively you could lie down and look up at a fixed point in the car.

5. Traveling at night would be less traumatic since you cannot see the movement of the vehicle as well as you see it and perceive it in the day time.

6. Do not read anything – reading has been known to highly aggravate motion sickness.

7. Do not travel on the seats which face backwards or sideways – this confuses the eye even more and aggravates the problem.

8. Eat dry, plain crackers when you start to feel nauseous – this settles the stomach and works well for other kinds of nausea such as morning sickness too.

9. Do not consume alcohol before or during the travel as this will add to your woes.

10. Auto suggestion works in some people – keep repeating to yourself that you are happy and feel well.  If you convince yourself of this, then you will start to feel better quickly.

I suffer from terrible motion sickness in cars - I've found that really does work to either close your eyes, or try to sit so you're facing the direction you're travelling. I haven't tried ginger or lemon to ease motion sickness though - I'll give those a shot next time.

I think my motion sickness is worse if I travel when it's hot, or when I'm really tired. So the usual 'healthy' stuff like getting lots of rest and keeping yourself hydrated help me too.
