Our Top Pick For A Caribbean Cruise Destination

There are so many Caribbean islands to choose from, and most cruises only last a week or two, which is not enough time to visit them all.  If I were asked to pick just one island to visit, it would be hard to make the choice, but overall I would say that the best cruise spot is Saint Maarten because it is such a versatile island that has activity options for almost every traveler.

Saint Maarten – Something for Everyone

Some people love Saint Thomas and Saint Croix, but for me the one spot I always have to go when I am in the Caribbean is Saint Maarten.  There is so much to do here that there is no way that you can not consider it to be the top Caribbean cruise spot out of all the options.  Whether it is snorkeling, shopping or just laying on the beach Saint Maarten has it all.

Orient bay features one and a half miles of beaches, making it easy for you to find a comfortable spot to relax on, even during the busiest times of the year.  The beach is lined by quaint French cafes offering top quality foods in a friendly, relaxing environment.  Some people like to call Orient bay the French Riviera of the Caribbean.

If you are looking to go shopping you can take advantage of the great prices at the islands duty free shops.  Many of these stores will have prices at 25-50 percent less then what you would see in the United States in Europe.  Merchant compete daily for your business and prices on jewelry and gems is very aggressive, so if you are looking for mementos this is the time to get them.

Adventurous souls will enjoy Shipwreck Cove – an almost endless set of coral reefs, tropical fish, and actual wrecked ships.  If you are an accomplished diver you can explore some of those shipwrecks.  Other adventurous day trip options include Kayak tours through the islands lagoons, and bird watching trips.

Saint Maarten has something for everyone, which is why it ranks as one of the best Caribbean cruise destinations.  If you only had time to visit one island, it is a great way to get a flavor of the Caribbean.

Me and my husband visited St. Maarten last year for your 25th wedding anniversary. The island is so beautiful! It is clean and the people are friendly. There are people from every culture you can imagine there, and Simpson Bay Lagoon is amazing! There are yachts docked there that are bigger than my house. I have already told my husband we're going back again for our 30th anniversary.

You're right, St Maarten is absolutely brilliant. You forgot to mention one favorite activity of everybody – watching the planes land (almost on top of your head) at Maho beach.

Good point!!

That is quite an experience there by the sunset beach bar.

For the adventure lovers and the curious, its a MUST SEE, MUST EXPERIENCE event!! It has become one of the top "unofficial" attractions of the island. :-)
