Motion Sickness Medicine: Help To Enjoy A Pleasant Holiday
It can even make your first day of vacation a real letdown as you recover from the effects of motion sickness. That’s why motion sickness medicine should be on your list of holiday essentials right before the sunscreen. Many people make the mistake of taking motion sickness medicine too late and find that it has no effect.
Taking Preventative Measures
The first thing you need to do is load up on motion sickness medicine, but there are also a few other things you can do to help prevent motion sickness. For instance, there are some things you should avoid doing when traveling whether by sea or land. Try to avoid doing anything detailed, such as writing, sewing, reading and so on. This can trigger nausea even if you have taken motion sickness medicine.
One thing you should focus on doing is to constantly remind your body that you are moving. This is very easy to do. All you need to do is look out a window and keep noting how the scenery keeps changing. If you stay focus on the interior of the car, plane or cruise ship that you are traveling on, you will only reaffirm that you are not moving which will send out mixed signals to your brain and trigger motion sickness. Doing this after taking sea sickness medicine will mean you won’t experience any nausea.
What Are The Normal Side Effects?
Take motion sickness medicine an hour or so before you travel. Make sure not to take motion sickness medication on an empty stomach. It’s normal to feel drowsy as a result of taking motion sickness medication. You may also feel dryness in your mouth.
It is possible however that you may experience the opposite of what is considered normal side effects when taking motion sickness medicine. Some people experience excitability, particularly children. This can be a disadvantage if you are traveling a very long distance, but it may be a better alternative to having your children feeling ill throughout a flight or car trip.
Be On Guard For Allergies and Serious Side Effects
Most people can use motion sickness medicine safely while others may experience allergies and serious side effects. Be on guard for how the motion sickness medicine is affecting you. If you experience itching, a rash, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing then you are experiencing an allergic reaction to the medication, and you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
There may be other serious side effects to the medication such as seizures, decreased or painful urination, and vision changes. This would be a strong indication that the motion sickness tablet is triggering an allergic reaction and you should contact your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms after taking motion sickness medicine.
