Safety Issues On Cruise Ships Part 2
If you are concerned about safety issues on cruise ships, you are not alone. Your personal safety should be your first concern while you are on a cruise ship, and the safety of your belongings should also be considered. If at all possible, leave expensive personal items at home, and try not to carry any more money than you will need for the trip – you should try to carry a credit card or traveler's cheques instead of cash, for example.
Cruise ships expect you to be aware of the safety issues on cruise ships and some will not reimburse passengers for lost luggage. Check the cruise line's policy before you travel, and if this is the case, or you have items of sentimental value that could not be replaced, leave those at home if at all possible.
Keep Your Money Safe
Cash and credit cards are popular targets for thieves whether on land or at sea. Knowing that these kinds of safety issues on cruise ships exist, you should try to avoid using a purse or wallet – instead, consider a money pouch or money belt. The pouches that you can wear around your neck and tuck in to your shirt are quite discrete, and should reduce the chance of you being targeted by a thief.
If you do carry cash, don't keep it all in one place. Keep some in your purse or pockets, and some in your room, for example. This way, if some money is lost, you will not be left penniless for the rest of the journey. If you do use a purse or wallet, do not keep it in your back pocket, as this makes it too easy for a pickpocket to strike. Instead, try to keep it in your front pocket, where you are more likely to notice that it is missing.
