Caribbean Cruise Vacation: Island Hopping In Style
For many people, a Caribbean cruise is a dream vacation – after all, the Caribbean is a wonderful place, with a warm climate, some spectacular scenery, and the perfect mix of relaxing, peaceful places, and a party atmosphere. A Caribbean cruise is an ideal retreat for people looking to get away from home and enjoy something different, while being pampered along the way.
The History Behind The Name
The Caribbean is named after the Caribbean Sea. The islands surrounding it have now become famous, and the islands themselves are what people usually think of first. The word 'Caribbean' comes from the term 'Caribs', which was one of the main Amerindian groups during the 15th Century when the Europeans came to the islands.
Some also refer to it as the West Indies and that came from Christopher Columbus who once thought that he landed in the south or east of Asia when in truth he was already in the Americas. As for Spanish explorers, they assign the generic term Antilles to lands that are recently discovered that is where the Sea of the Antilles, Caribbean Sea in various European languages, was derived.
Several Islands, One Ship, One Price
When you take a Caribbean cruise vacation you will get to explore several islands in the Caribbean. Each island is unique, with different scenery, different things to do, and a different atmosphere. There are so many islands in the Caribbean that you could not possibly explore even a fraction of them in one cruise vacation, but you could explore a few of them and enjoy some of what the islands have to offer. You can also enjoy the atmosphere on the boat itself, and take the chance as you are coming in to port to get some great photographs of the islands.
Deciding Which Islands To Visit
If you already decided with the Caribbean Cruise Vacation, let us help you decide on which are the best islands to stopover. Bahamas should of course be on the list because who does not love the beaches of Bahamas and the unique blend of the European and African culture. Enjoy a day lounging at the beach while taking a sip of the best piña colada.
You could stop off in Barbados to see the island – this may interest you if you are a fan of Friends – a show which made the island famous, or, if you are interested in cricket. You could also visit Jamaica, and get a feel for the culture behind the Rastafarian movement, and reggae music – pay tribute by visiting the place where those great sounds began.
Next time you're planning a vacation, forget cramped cattle style flights and unknown hotel rooms – go on a Caribbean Cruise, where even the transportation is part of the holiday, be pampered on the ship, and visit some of the most beautiful islands in the world.
