Don’t Overlook River Cruises

When someone mentions a cruise, most people think of huge boats that head out on to the ocean, but that isn't the only kind of cruise available – you can have a lot of fun, and see a lot of new sights, on a river cruise too.

River cruises may not take you to as far-flung a destination as an ocean cruise, and they may not travel as fast, but they do take you to some interesting places, and there are some wonderful sites along the rivers of the world.

Are River Cruises Always Short?

Not necessarily.  It’s quite possible to book a seven, ten or even fourteen day cruise that meanders along the length of a single river.

There are some enjoyable one day, or even evening river cruises on offer – the River Thames, in London, for example, offers some day trip style cruises that give you the chance to explore London from a unique point of view.

An evening cruise is a great way to enjoy a good meal, drink some wine, and see the sights of a city – they make great romantic evenings, and can really add something extra to a holiday – or even just let you see a different side to somewhere near where you live.

River cruises of this nature are an excellent and novel idea for a birthday gift, and can also be a good option for parties and celebrations.  Not all river cruises take place aboard huge ships – the boats which cruise along the Thames, for instance, are actually quite small and are ideal for celebrations for groups of fifty or sixty people.

If you're after something a little longer, then why not take a cruise down one of the worlds most famous rivers?  There are vacation cruises down the Blue Danube, for example, that would make a wonderful full length vacation.

You’ll get a chance to hop on and off to visit some famous cities and landmarks, and on shore excursions to various locations are often included in the price of your cruise, especially if it is an all inclusive one.

A river cruise is a great way to introduce people to the idea of cruising – if someone is worried about getting on a boat, or just thinks they would be bored on a full length cruise, then a day trip is a good way to let them 'test the waters' without ever having to get too far away from dry land.

If you're not sure about a full cruise yet, or just want something you can enjoy without having to take a full length holiday, why not try a river cruise as a day trip or weekend break?

To what extent should a person who has been bothered with sea/motion sickness while driving in cars and on past OCEAN cruises be concerned with such symptoms when traveling on either Train Ride touring vs River Cruises in Europe rivers, China or Russia such as between St Petersburg and Moscow.
Which modes would be considered to provide the most pleasurable, memorable, scenic and non motion sickness prone mode of sight seeing travel between any two geographic areas which have available both river cruises and train transportation?
